Portsmouth Royal Dockyard ...


Victory Gate at Portsmouth Royal Dockyard. Just inside the gate to the right is the Porter's Lodge, which was built in 1708 and is the oldest surviving building in the Dockyard.


The Mast Pond was excavated in 1665 by soldiers, local laborers, and Dutch prisoners of war. During the Age of Sail, it was used to store masts waiting to be repaired or collected for use aboard ships.

Ancient Storehouses 9, 10 and 11 along the Main Road, with 10's clock tower, which were built in the 1760s to house ships' stores and equipment for Royal Navy fleet vessels.


HMS Victory's figurehead. The ship remains a full commissioned vessel, flying the flag of the Second Sea Lord and Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Guard.
